Amazing news from Albany, NY!

Residents of Albany, NY are concerned about the recent increase in oil trains there. (See this great video that talks about how crazily dangerous crude-by-rail is in Albany.) Today the Albany County Health Department, in response to an executive order, issued a moratorium on the expansion of crude-oil processing and storage at the Port of Albany.

This is because of a recent permit application from an oil terminal to add boilers to its facilities – to be able to handle heavy tar sands crude.

Coming after recent resolutions in Seattle and Spokane, this is a really promising trend. The political system is pushing back against Big Oil, and is actually protecting people!

SFGate has the story:

Albany bars crude processing expansion at port
